Time : 3 Hours Max. Marks : 100

Instruction : Answer all questions.

PART- A

1. Explain directivity and gain. How are they related ? [Marks 5]

2. Explain effective height of an antenna. [Marks 5]

3. Write a note on end fire arrays. [Marks 5]

4. Explain the multiplication of radiation patterns. [Marks 5]

5. Discuss the radiation pattern of a V-antenna. [Marks 5]

6. Write a note on log-periodic antenna. [Marks 5]

7. Write a note on skip distance. [Marks 5]

8. Discuss multihop propagation. [Marks 5]

PART- B

9. a) Write a note on each :
i) Hertzian dipole
ii) Beam solid angle
iii) Half power band width. [Marks 15]

OR

b) i) A thin dipole antenna is Lambda/8 long. If its loss resistance is 1.5 ohm. Find its
radiation resistance and efficiency. [Marks 8]
ii) state and prove Babinets principle for complementary antennas. [Marks 7]
10. a) Find the array factor and draw the normalized radiation pattern of a broad
side array of five isotropic radiation spaced Lambda/2 apart. The excitation amplitude
ratios are 1 : 2 : 3 :2: 1. Compare the first side lobe level with that of a five
element uniform array. [Marks 15]

OR

b) i) Design a 6 element end fire array with l,/2 spacing between elements .
The pattern is to be optimum with a side lobe level 13.9 dB down the main
lobe maximum. [Marks 10]
